PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There will be spots for more students at Philadelphia's best-performing public schools this fall.
The School District of Philadelphia is adding nearly 2,300 seats at 19 of its best-performing schools this fall. The schools include Girls High, AMY Northwest, and the EM Stanton School.

Penny Nixon, the district's chief academic officer, made the announcement today on the steps of Girls High (top photo). She says that individual school budgets are based on enrollment, so the expanding schools will have money for extra teachers.
"Right now, if a principal looks into their budget, the funds for the expansion are there for them so that they can buy the additional staff," she said.
The 19 schools selected have extra capacity in their existing buildings.
Masterman and Central High are not on this list.
