Philadelphia Eagles Rookie QB Jalen Hurts Named Starter For Week 15 Game Vs. Arizona Cardinals
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles are taking things one game at a time as the season starts to wind down. Coach Doug Pederson says he likes what he saw from rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts in Sunday's big win against New Orleans.
It's so nice, they'll do it twice. After watching the game film, Pederson has decided to run it back with Hurts, who will start next Sunday in Arizona.
The Eagles broke their four-game losing streak with a three-point win over the Saints at Lincoln Financial Field.
Hurts tossed for 167 yards and became only the second QB in NFL history to rush for over 100 yards in his debut. The Birds scored 24 points, their highest output since mid-October.
So Hurts gets the start in Arizona.
"After going through the film and really looking back even to last week and the preparation and everything, I'm going to continue with Jalen this week as the starter," Pederson said. "Sometimes on Monday I set up here and go, 'Hey, we gotta do better on first down, we gotta stay ahead of the chains.' Yesterday we were able to do that, whether it was first-and-10 into a second-and-8 or second-and-7, or even a second-and-10, we didn't have many second-and-long situations."
However, it wasn't all smiles for the Eagles Monday. Starting safety Rodney McLeod suffered a torn ACL and he's out for the rest of the season.
That's a huge loss for a defense that forced two turnovers Sunday.
The 4-8-1 Birds head to Arizona to take on the Cardinals (7-6) at 4:05 p.m. Sunday.
