Philadelphia Cycling Leader Glad To See End of Lance Armstrong Era

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Now that Lance Armstrong has dropped his battle over doping allegations (see related story), a Philadelphia-based pro cycling icon says it's time to clean up and move on.
Noting that it's sad that steroid use went on so long in pro cycling, David Chauner, president of Pro Cycling Tour -- which stages the bike race in Philadelphia every year -- says cleaning up the sport sends a positive message.
"A lot of the young riders that are coming up now, instead of being told, 'You've got to play the game and this is what you have to do when you're a pro,' they're being told, 'You don't do that -- there are training methods and hard work that can give you the kind of cycling career you would like.' "
Chauner was not surprised that Armstrong decided to drop his fight; he says too many witnesses and too much damaging information would be revealed if the dispute were allowed to continue.
