Philadelphia Councilman's Staff Face Fines For Ethics Violations
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Board of Ethics reports that three staff members in Councilman David Oh's office will pay more than $3000 in fines for violating political activity restrictions.
The Board says the staff members organized, promoted and participated in fundraisers for Councilman Oh, last year, while he was running for re-election and handled some campaign contributions.
Executive Director Shane Creamer says that violates the city charter.
"It's never appropriate to engage in political fundraising and for political campaign activity -- they are permitted to engage in that but they cannot engage in that on city property on city time or using city resources."
Creamer says the Board found Oh participated in the violations by handing campaign checks to one of the staffers but he was not cited in the settlement agreement. He had no comment.
