Convention Center Expansion Nears Completion
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The long-anticipated expansion of the Pennsylvania Convention Center opens to the public next month, and there's a "WOW" moment around every corner.
Huge meeting rooms, more exhibit halls, the huge atrium and entrance on Broad Street, the Terrace Ballroom on the third floor is about the size of a football field -- at 55,000 square feet -- it's the largest ballroom on the East Coast.
Project executive Joe Resta says construction could at times be a logistical nightmare. For example, some much-needed equipment was to be delivered the same day as the Broad Street Run.
"Very early in the morning, the cranes that remove those pieces of equipment had to be procured to take the equipment off the truck, place it inside the building and then basically get out of the way for tens of thousands of runners to run across the front of the building on Broad."
