Philadelphia City Council to begin hearings for proposed Sixers arena. See the schedule.
Philadelphia City Council is getting ready to jump into the plans for a new Sixers arena in Market East.
Council members will have eight days of public hearings before voting on the legislation needed to build the arena.
The first hearing is Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. According to City Council, the first set of testimonies will include officials from Mayor Cherelle Parker's administration.
On Wednesday, Sixers officials will testify about why they want to build a stadium in Center City.
There are several opportunities for public testimony in the coming weeks:
- Nov. 19: 1:30-4 p.m.
- Nov. 20: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
- Nov. 21: 6-9 p.m.
- Nov. 26: 1:30-4 p.m.
- Dec. 2: 6-9 p.m.
People interested in speaking during the public testimony hearing should contact the Chief Clerk's Office at (215) 686-3407 or arena.hearings@phila.gov by 3 p.m. the day before they want to testify and submit the following:
- Full name
- Phone number
- The bill number or resolution number/numbers that will be addressed and what day they want to testify
Parker has already thrown her support behind the team's plan to move from the Wells Fargo Center to a new arena at the site of the Fashion District mall along Market Street.
