Philadelphia Child Advocacy Center Taps Corporate Fundraising
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A child advocacy center in Philadelphia is looking for 20 corporate sponsors to help it with its mission of aiding sexually abused children in the city.
The Philadelphia Children's Alliance works with public and private agencies to coordinate the investigation of child sexual abuse cases in Philadelphia.
Executive director Chris Kirchner says there are about 140 alleged cases per month in Philadelphia but only about half of those children can be helped due to the organization's financial constraints.
"When there is an allegation of sexual abuse, children are brought to our facility for investigative interviews. Their caregivers receive support services, we offer crisis counseling, and we bring law enforcement and child welfare and prosecution together at our facility to insure that children don't have to be interviewed over and over about the allegation," Kirchner explains.
Now, the "Corporate 20 Bridge to Healing" fundraising campaign has been launched, wherein corporations are being asked to donate $5,000 a year for three years as the organization moves meeting the needs of all the children that come its way.
