Philadelphia Chef To Lead 10-Day Tasting Tour Of Israel
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – This fall, you can travel to Israel with a well-known Philadelphia chef.
But this is no Paula Deen cruise; the $6,750 ten-day culinary adventure in the Holy Land with Chef Michael Solomonov includes a night in a Bedouin tent, a float in the Dead Sea, and plenty of Israeli food and drinks for all.
"This trip is a food lover's dream, with meals that range from multi-course gourmet feasts to street food eaten with our hands as we stroll through a market," says Chef Solomonov, in a press release. "We'll be traveling with a group of talented North American chefs, all of whom will contribute to the memorial meal for my brother, and every member of our group should rest assured that they will eat well and experience a true 'taste of Israel' while traveling with me."
Chef Solomonov, who was born in Tel Aviv but spent much of his early life in Pittsburgh before coming to Philadelphia, is the mastermind behind Old City's much touted Israeli restaurant, Zahav.
The trip, which departs from Newark Liberty Airport on Oct. 6th, is "deeply personal" for Chef Solomonov, as it coincides with the 10th anniversary of his brother David's death.
David, an Israeli soldier, was killed in the line of duty near the Lebanese border on Yom Kippur back in 2003. His death inspired Solomonov to take up Israeli cooking and open Zahav.
