Philadelphia Charter School To Close
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The founder of a Philadelphia charter school says the doors will close for good this week.
In a letter sent to parents and a message on the school's website, Walter D. Palmer says the Leadership Learning Partners Charter School will close at the end of the year.
Eyewitness News spoke with Walter Palmer. He says this will effect some 675 students who recently won a lottery to stay at the school.
Parents tell Eyewitness News they are not happy, and their children are distraught.
A spokesperson for the School District of Philadelphia released the following statement Saturday:
"The Walter Palmer organization has not informed the School District of its plans to close the charter school. We will be reaching out to the school administration to confirm its plan to close. The School District is ready to assist parents and students with transition to public schools. The School District has setup a dedicated website for Walter Palmer parents to assist them with the transition process. Parents can access it through the District's website at www.philasd.org."
The school will be closing its doors for good on December 31st.
