Philadelphia Celebrates July 4th Before, During And After The Holiday

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There's a lot happening in Philadelphia this week, in the days leading up to and following the Fourth of July.
With so many patriotic events going on, the city is calling this week "Freedom Week." Meryl Levitz with Visit Philadelphia says there's something for everyone -- from 'Go Forth and Learn' at the Academy of Natural Sciences to 'POPS on Independence.'
And of course, she says, the highlight will be 4th of July itself -- with festivities on the Parkway:
"There are multiple music stages, there are games, there's food and then as we draw to the end of the day we get the 'Philly Fourth of July Jam and Fireworks' and it really is the largest free concert in America and it will rock the parkway."
Since the Fourth of July is on a Friday, celebrations continue into next weekend with Saturday night fireworks and the annual ice cream festival on Penn's Landing.
"And by the way, the National Constitution Center is open late until 8 p.m. on July 2nd and 3rd and Independence Hall, the Bell Center and the Independence Visitor Center also stay open late," Levitz explains.
Other activities include a Founding Fathers meet-and-greet at the National Constitution Center and 'Philly at the Movies' in Franklin Square.
