Philadelphia Cab Drivers Help Their NYC Brethren Impacted By Superstorm Sandy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - New York City cab drivers were among those who took an outsized hit from Hurricane Sandy. That inspired drivers for a Philadelphia cab company to try to help.
Waterlogged vehicles and gas shortages left New York City cab drivers without a source of income. Drivers for Freedom Taxi in Philadelphia knew they dodged a bullet and felt compelled to reach out.
"This is a family here and we understand that there's a support system that needs to be there when those guys can't make a living."
Freedom taxi owner Everett Abitbol says he was moved by the response.
"Drivers came in with their kids, to show their kids they were giving back. Drivers brought in clothes, canned goods. We filled up literally about 140 boxes."
Driver Billy Goodman took a busman's holiday to get the relief supplies to Rockaway.
"This is a very good cause, you know. I mean it's something we can't avoid doing. People need help and we have to help people out."
