Philadelphia Cab Driver Stabbed Multiple Times During Robbery
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A Philadelphia cab driver is recovering in the hospital after police say he was stabbed multiple times during a robbery in Queen Village overnight.
It happened around 1:15 a.m. Monday at Front and Christian Streets.
Authorities say a taxi driver pulled over to let two men out of his cab. As they stood by the driver's side window, one of the men pretended to be getting money out his wallet and that's when the second man began stabbing the driver. The first man then pulled a knife and also started stabbing the driver.
Police say the 37-year-old cab driver was stabbed 11 times before he was able to wrestle away a knife from one of the suspects and turn it on his attackers.
Investigators say the two men ran off with around $200.
The taxi driver managed to drive to Front and South Streets, where he flagged down police, who nabbed one suspect nearby. The other suspected robber is still on the loose, but police say they know who they're looking for.
The cab driver was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in stable condition.
