Philadelphia Area Boy Critically Injured In San Fran Hit-Run After Phillies Game
YARDLEY, Pa. (CBS) – A Philadelphia area boy is in critical condition after being struck by a hit and run driver while leaving the Phillies-Giants game in San Francisco.
The incident happened Thursday at about 10:30 p.m. PST at Mission Street and Montgomery, only blocks away from AT&T Park.
According to investigators, nine-year-old Ryan White, of Yardley, had just left the game and was walking ahead of his family and relatives when he was hit by a man driving down the street the wrong way.
White was transported to San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center where he is being treated for a broken pelvis and other serious injuries. His injuries are not life-threatening, but he remains listed in critical condition.
Police say the driver collided with several other cars before fleeing the scene. Police arrested the driver approximately three hours after the incident.

San Francisco police Lt. Troy Dangerfield later identified the driver as Andrew Vargas, 21, who was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence.
Hooten, an uncle who lives in Granite Bay north of Sacramento, told CBS San Francisco the family outing to AT&T Park for the first game of the Giants series against the Phillies was supposed to be the highlight of the trip for White and his 11-year-old brother, both huge fans of their hometown team.
"They were looking forward to it. They had their Phillies hats that they were all the time, and they were talking about the game," he said.
The boys and their parents were at the game with an aunt and a cousin.
Back in Yardley, neighbors were shocked to hear the news.
Josephine Driscoll said, "I just hope he's ok, such a nice family. I'd hate to see anything bad happen to them."
"I just hope he's ok, there are no lasting problems and everything and they come home soon," Lisa Kall added.

Neighbors believe the Whites were planning to return home next Friday.
A 58-year-old woman also suffered a foot injury in the crash. The incident remains under police investigation.
