Philadelphia Begins Its "Unlitter" Campaign In Frankford
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The City of Philadelphia officially launched its "Unlitter Us" campaign Friday afternoon with a rally at Frankford Avenue and Pratt Street.
With spoken-word artists leading the way, the eventual goal of the city's "Unlitter Us" campaign is to clean up Philadelphia one community at a time.
First up: Frankford.
Tracy O'Drain is managing director of the Frankford Community Development Corporation:
"One of the biggest problems that we noticed is that Frankford had one of the lowest recycling rates. And, obviously, if you drove through Frankford, you can see the trash problems, the litter problems.
"It was an initiative as a community development corporation that we wanted to take on, and, at the same time, the business association had gone out and surveyed the businesses along the business corridor and found that they felt the same way."
Recycling bins are being distributed and litter crews are going out to clean up, with the goal of making Frankford a litter-free zone by spring.
