Philadelphia Begins 2nd Year of Volunteer Coaching Program For Students
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The City of Philadelphia is looking for a few good volunteers, to help struggling teens graduate from high school.
This month marks the start of the second year of a program called the "Graduation Coach Campaign." The first year saw 1,500 volunteers tutor city teens on how to succeed in high school and college.
"I tell my children that they can be anything they want to be, but they need a college degree to succeed," says Dorian Harris of Germantown, one of the volunteer coaches.
And Mayor Nutter says the volunteer coaches get some coaching themselves.
"The Eagles have a playbook and the Phillies have a playbook -- we're going to give you a graduation coach playbook," he told a group of volunteers today at the City Hall kickoff event.
They're seeking another 1,500 coaches this year. You can sign up at phillygradcoach.org.
