Philadelphia-Area Muslims Relieved At News of Osama's Death
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A local Muslim group says Muslim Americans are rejoicing that Osama bin Laden is dead.
"We welcome it, beyond anything. It's been a long ten years," says Moein Khawaja (right), executive director of the Council of American Islamic Relations ("CAIR") of Philadelphia. "There's no way to take away the pain of what happened that day, but it's been an amazing win. It's something that we really needed as Americans."
Khawja says that for a decade, for many Americans, Islam wore the face of Bin Laden. And although Khawja says he is sure that many know Islam wasn't, won't, and will never be Bin Laden's ideology, he hopes this is a major turning point in American Islamic relations.
