Philadelphia-Area Congressmen Agree Bin Laden Death Photos Are Best Kept Secret
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Several members of the US Congress, including a few from the Delaware Valley, have been getting a top-secret peek at the post-mortem pictures of terror chieftain Osama bin Laden.
Members of the Armed Services Committee and Intelligence Committee are being invited to CIA headquarters where, after going through stringent security, they are able to view the pictures in a room.
US Rep. Bob Brady (D-Pa.) calls the photos "grotesque."
"I wanted to see whether or not I thought… I couldn't make a determination whether I thought they should be put to the public or not until I saw them. And when I saw them, I'm glad that they're not made public," Brady told KYW Newsradio today.
Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ), who labels the pictures "dramatic," agrees -- but for a different reason.
"We have incredibly dedicated, patriotic men and women in uniform putting their lives at risk every second of every day in some pretty tough places," he said, "and I don't think we should do a single thing to further endanger them."
Brady is confident the pictures will not be leaked; LoBiondo isn't so sure.
