Philabundance Gets A Phillies Boost

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philabundance food bank got a boost on Sunday from the Phillies "Phans Feeding Families" day at the ball park. Fans brought non-perishable food to the Diamondbacks game and a couple hundred of them made a donation to get their picture taken with Phillies ace Roy Halladay.
Whatever disappointment fans might be feeling about Phillies pitching this season, the crowd in the tent outside Citizens Bank Park was thrilled when "Doc" Halladay arrived for a photo session with them.
These events are a godsend to the non-profits, like Philabundance, that benefit, but Halladay's wife, Brandy, says it's also gratifying for the athletes and their families to be able to help.
"It is such an amazing group of people," she says. "And they do so much, so really we're honored to be a part of it and to generate awareness for them and the work they do and the people that need the help."
Philabundance president Bill Clark says the event came at the perfect time.
"Summertime is always the time when the demand is at the highest levels of the year, says Clark. "With all the children that are not in school taking advantage of school lunch, school breakfast, the demand on families right now is just astronomical."
