Phila. Protestors Mark Intersection of Immigration, Baseball
A demonstration on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park was one of several across the country held to protest Arizona's new anti-illegal immigration law.
KYW's Hadas Kuznits reports about 100 people gathered outside the ballpark, where the Phillies were playing the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Fabricio Rodriguez, Philadelphia coordinator with Reform Immigration for America, says one-third of Major League Baseball players are immigrants:
"If you're very wealthy, or an athlete, you can get a Green Card in this country without too many problems. But the bill in Arizona -- if that bill was brought here to Pennsylvania, they could still be racially profiled."
Rodriguez says his group is trying to encourage MLB commissioner Bud Selig to relocate the 2011 All-Star Game -- currently slated for Arizona:
"The Philadelphia Phillies -- Chooch [Carlos Ruiz] -- there are a lot of folks that are immigrants here. We love these guys. So we're out here to show our appreciation for them, just like all the immigrants that contribute to our nation."
