Phila. Police Hoping For Break In Fatal Holmesburg Hit-Run Case
By Steve Tawa
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police have picked up a few clues but are still looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a woman on State Road in Northeast Philadelphia, then sped off, two days before Christmas.
The three known witnesses describe it as either a dark-colored Ford pickup or a tow truck. Capt. John Wilcynski, of the police department's Accident Investigation District ("AID"), says they've narrowed down the model year of the vehicle.
"A piece of the left headlight lens fell off. We took that to a dealership and traced it back to a probable 1987 to '91, so we have some evidence," he said.
(Tawa:) "Do you think it might be a local truck?"
(Wilcynski:) "It could be, but we don't know. Remember, it was in Northeast Philadelphia -- it could have been from Bensalem or Jersey."
The commander is hoping someone steps forward with information. He points out that callers can be kept anonymous if they wish. And he said the vehicle shouldn't be hard to recognize:
"Left side front-end damage; headlight and left turn signal clearly were left behind."
The victim, 33-year-old Theresa Pozzi, was struck and killed as she waited for a break in traffic while standing on the center line of State Road in Holmesburg.
