PGW Offering Rebates for Energy-Saving Home Improvements

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Here's news you can use: PGW is offering money to homeowners so they can make repairs that will improve the home's energy efficiency and also lower their bills.
It's the latest program in the company's effort to reduce the region's carbon footprint.
Many Philadelphia residents, especially those living in older homes, know they're wasting energy, but navigating the audits and estimates and research to fix things is overwhelming. PGW vice president Dan Murray says that's where the new program comes in.
"It's kind of taking the fact-finding out of the hands of the consumer and made it much easier for them to make their choices," he tells KYW Newsradio.
PGW prescreens contractors and sets you up with an audit for a flat fee of $150.
If you decide to do the recommended work, PGW will rebate the cost, up to $3,500.
Mayor Nutter says a bonus of the program is that it creates jobs.
"Philadelphians have been hired as home performance contractors and have been trained, tested, and certified to national standards," the mayor notes.
