CBS 3 Pet Project: Holiday No-No's If You Have A Pet
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- During the holiday season, it is important to not forget the needs of your four-legged family members. There are a ton of things going on inside the home this time of year and your pets will undoubtedly be curious about some unfamiliar sights and sounds.
Carol Erickson, animal advocate and friend of the PSPCA, stopped by CBS 3 to share a list of Holiday No-No's for pet owners:
TINSEL AND TREE WATER:
Pet owners must watch out for tinsel. If any pet ingests it, it could cause intestinal blockage. The water itself could have sap in it from the tree, or some type of preservative or pesticide that could be harmful to your pet.
MISTLETOE, HOLLY, POINSETTIAS:
These can be harmful to your pet so it is best to have the plastic versions of these if you insist on having them in the home during the holidays.
IGNORING PET'S NEEDS:
There are a lot of things that need to get done during the holidays, but our pet need just as much love and attention at that time as they do all year long. Try to keep up your pet's normal routine.
NOT HAVING A 24-HOUR VET:
There are certain times when an emergency could arise with your pets during the holidays. It is important to know the name of an emergency 24-hour vet who would be open even on the holidays.
SALT DOUGH ORNAMENTS:
Your pet may attempt to eat these. If that occurs, it could cause salt toxicity. You must be very careful to keep these out of reach from your pet.
