Truck Possibly Involved In Fatal Hit-And-Run In Pottstown Is Found
POTTSTOWN, Pa. (CBS)— Police in Pottstown have found a truck believed to be involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a man who was walking to work last Friday night.
The Montgomery County District Attorney's office says 24-year-old Donald Purnell was walking to his job at a Wendy's just before 8 p.m. when he was struck near the intersection of Route 100 and Shoemaker Road.
After speaking with witnesses, Pottstown Borough Police say they believe Purnell was hit by a dark-colored pick-up truck that was last seen headed south on Route 100 towards King Street. Police say Purnell was hit by a second vehicle whose driver said he didn't see his body on the highway.
On Tuesday, March 7, authorities say they have found the truck involved.
Authorities say the truck matches the description from a witness to the crash, has damage to its hood, radiator, grill and bumper and is currently undergoing a complete forensic examination.
"I want to thank both the media for sharing this tragic story about a young man who was killed walking to work and the individual who came forward to provide information on the pick-up truck," said District Attorney Kevin Steele. "That assistance has been invaluable in this investigation."
No charges against the driver of the pick-up truck have been filed at this time, Steele says.
