People Out And About Face Dangerous Temps In Delaware Valley
By Tim Jimenez
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Temperatures in the Delaware Valley have plummeted with wind chills in the single digits today.
It was a bone-chilling, teeth-chattering morning and like any other day, Debbie is standing outside waiting for the bus. But she certainly can't stand this deep freeze:
"I just don't like cold weather. Spring-like weather, fine, medium chill in the air that's okay, but this kind of weather, no. I'd rather be in the house."
But she couldn't just stay home, she had to go to work and so she dressed the part:
"As many layers on as I possibly can. I have two pairs of socks on, thermals on, leggings on, everything!"
Layers are critical on a day like this.
Angelo drives a truck, delivering food to restaurants across the city and he says he's ready for the day:
"Throw on long johns, some extra layers and try to stay as warm as I can, but I'll be moving throughout the day."
All that moving around helps, but he says he's careful.
There weren't a lot of happy faces Thursday, unless you're Tim, who was waiting for his bus at 4 a.m.:
"I love the cold. It makes me smile."
(Reporter) Even cold like today?
"Yes, yes," says Tim. "It's just crisp. I love the air, that's all, fresh air."
He was standing next to Debbie, who couldn't disagree more.
"He's crazy! He's just crazy, that's all."
A cold blue is in effect for much of the region. Officials stress caution as this blast can't be ignored and can be dangerous.
