Pennsylvania's New Lt. Governor Expects Expanded Role

HARRISBURG (CBS) - Pennsylvania's new lieutenant governor said he expects an announcement soon on what will be an "expansive" role in the Corbett administration.

Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley, a Levittown native, Temple University and Law School grad, former state legislative staffer, and most recently former Bucks County commissioner said he and Governor Tom Corbett have a strong relationship and are "true partners." "In the very near future, I think you will have an understanding of how the governor and I view the role of lieutenant governor," Cawley said. "I can tell you that the portfolio will be significantly expanded into some important public policy areas."

Mr. Cawley, however, declined to discuss what those public policy areas might be, saying that is up to Corbett to announce. He also noted, in reaction to a bill introduced by a Republican state senator to eliminate the office in Pennsylvania, that states that have abolished the office of lieutenant governor have reinstated it.
