Pennsylvania Votes For A New Governor, U.S. Senator
PENNSYLVANIA (CBS) - At the top of the ballot today, Pennsylvania voters will find candidates for governor and U.S. Senate.
In the race for governor, Republican attorney general Tom Corbett faces Democratic Allegheny County executive Dan Onorato. Corbett has led in opinion polls wire to wire, even going back to the primary. But at a Press Club event in Harrisburg last week, Corbett insisted he's taking nothing for granted:
"Everywhere I go, when I'm talking to Republican rallies, I remind them, 'don't stay home. Don't assume that we've won this. You have to get out there and work extra hard.' I remind them that in my thought process, we're four or five points down. And nobody's going to outwork me."
But at a campaign event last week, Onorato said he was not discouraged by the poll numbers:
"What we're doing is staying on message, and talking about why I want to be governor. That means something when those undecideds decide to make their decision, because they know who we are and what we stand for. Most of them broke my way in the primary. And that's why I try to keep getting my message out, because everybody comes to their decision at a different time."
Polls have shown that the race for governor is not as close as the race for U.S. Senate with Democratic Congressman Joe Sestak at times running neck and neck with former Republican Congressman Pat Toomey.
