Pennsylvania Turnpike Tolls Rising 6% in January

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission today announced a six-percent toll hike that will take effect in January.
Commission spokesman Carl DeFebo says it will mark the second year in a row that turnpike tolls will be increased across the board, after several years of smaller increases for EZ Pass customers.
"The commissioners were comfortable with the differential," DeFebo said today. "Right now it's been at 35 percent. EZ Pass customers pay about 35 percent less than cash-paying customers, and the commissioners were obviously comfortable with that differential."
The six-percent increase means that, come January, the minimum toll on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which is also the most common toll, will go from $1.09 to $1.16 for EZ Pass customers, and from $1.70 to $1.85 for cash customers.
