Pennsylvania Supreme Court Upholds Decision To Put Casino In Valley Forge
HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has upheld the Gaming Control Board's decision to put a casino in Valley Forge.
Greenwood Gaming, the owner of Parx, had argued that the Gaming Control Board's decision to grant a 'Category 3' resort casino license for the Valley Forge Convention Center was at odds with the state gaming act. But board spokesman Doug Harbach says the state high court has rejected the appeal.
"Two of the issues had to do about the ownership, whether it was proper under the act… and also whether it was an established resort hotel, that also made it eligible for this category 3 license. And in both cases, the court said, in a majority, that it was."
But in separate dissenting opinions, two Pennsylvania Supreme Court justices dispute the conclusion that the Valley Forge Convention Center meets the criteria as a "well-established resort" stipulated in the state gaming law as necessary for a 'Category 3' casino license.
