Pennsylvania Ballet Delivers Trio Of High Energy Pieces
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania Ballet's newest production opened Thursday night, and runs through Sunday at the Merriam Theater, featuring a trio of high energy pieces on the bill.
The program, called Classic Innovations, features the work of three contemporary choreographers: Forsythe, Wheeldon and Tharp. Soloist Ian Hussey's dancing in Twyla Tharp's the Upper Room:
"It's Philip Glass music, it's high energy, lots of stuff that probably a lot of people haven't seen or would expect from a normal classical ballet company, but there's also a lot of classical ballet influence in it as well."
Hussey says the entire program will both surprise and entertain, even those who think they don't like ballet:
"All three pieces are really, really high energy, very exciting. I don't think anyone will be bored from ballet ."
