NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A former volunteer technician with the Norristown Area High School marching band is behind bars in Montgomery County charged with sexually assaulting a band member and her friend.
Prosecutors say Steven Fitzgerald assaulted the girls two years ago when they were freshmen at the high school. But it wasn't until earlier this month when he tried to reach out to them again that the two alleged victims went to police.
The 24-year-old Pennsauken, New Jersey man is facing numerous charges, including statutory rape, sexual assault and corruption of minors.
"He was able to communicate with the victim here initially via social media, via Facebook and Twitter messaging and then from that they met in person," District Attorney Risa Ferman said.
Police say the assaults took place in his car in parking lots in the Norristown area. The victim told police he contacted her this month in an attempt to have sex with the two girls again.
Fitzgerald's bail is set at $100,000 cash.
The Norristown Area School District emphasized that he was not an employee.
