Penn's Veterinary Hospital Features Patients In New Billboard Campaign

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Patients of Ryan Veterinary Hospital, at the University of Pennsylvania, are starring this week in new billboard campaign. Winners of a contest are being featured on electronic billboards around the city, including some along Interstate 95.
There were more than a 140 enteries for the "Happy Tails" contest. Owners submitted their pet's photo and a story about how Penn Vet's Ryan Hospital helped their animal.
There were four winners: a rabbit, a cat, and two dogs.
Tristan's testimonial, written from the perspective the rescued Shetland sheepdog, was one of the four selected.
Sue Anderson of Bryn Mawr is Tristan's owner. She says her five-year-old pooch was treated for melanoma. He is now done with the radiation treatments and has received a series of special shots.
"This melanoma vaccination is really exciting because it's approved in dogs and may soon be approved for humans," Anderson tells KYW Newsradio. "He has had his four shots of that, but he is being seen every month to make sure the melanoma has not come back."
She says the winners of the bilboard contest only get bragging rights.
"You know, he's glad now that he's a star," she says with a chuckle.
