PennDOT Suspending Construction Projects To Ease Thanksgiving Road Congestion
By Cherri Gregg
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The day before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after are two of the busiest days for road traffic for the entire year. PennDOT is trying to accommodate the added congestion.
"The earlier you leave if you're traveling a distance the better."
PennDOT spokesman Gene Blaum advises motorists to expect traffic congestion on both the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, as well as the Sunday after. He says you can make up time if you plan ahead and leave early. Blaum says PennDOT will do its part by suspending construction projects on major highways to prevent delays.
"During the Thanksgiving holiday we will talk to contractors, we will have them stop work. They won't be able to restrict traffic from early Wednesday morning until 9 a.m. Monday."
