PennDOT Reopens Buckled Section Of Route 422 In Audubon
By Jim Melwert
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The high temperatures caused a highly traveled section of Route 422 to buckle yesterday afternoon.
This happened around 3:30pm, in the eastbound lanes of 422 right near the St. Gabe's curve, between the Oaks exit and Route 363 in Audubon, Montgomery County.
And it wasn't until around 9:30 last night that crews were able to get both lanes reopened -- before that traffic was forced to crawl single-file on the shoulder.
And while that made for a tough commute home for many, the good news is the busy stretch of 422 is reopened this morning.
But while crews were working on that, around 4:30pm, another buckle happened farther up 422 in the westbound lanes near Limerick.
PennDOT spokesman Gene Blaum says the buckling's not uncommon on the old, concrete road beds when temperatures are consistently in the 90s.
He says the permanent fix will be done sometime next week.
