PennDOT Prepares For Snow Storm, Messy Morning Commute

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With a chance for some significant snowfall in the Delaware Valley Sunday night into Monday afternoon, PennDOT is advising motorists to be prepared for what could be a rough commute to work Monday morning.
PennDOT spokesman Gene Blaum says crews won't be hitting the roadways ahead of the storm, because it's just been too warm.
"We will not be doing any pre-spraying of the roadways based on the ambient temperatures and the roadway temperatures," Blaum said.
But he says that doesn't mean crews won't be ready to roll when the snow starts to fall.
"Some of the heavier precipitation may be falling during the morning rush hour," he said, "so I would fully expect motorists will see trucks out on the roadway."
Blaum adds that all 182 state road crews will be deployed, with extra contractors on call if needed.
With that in mind, Blaum asks motorists to keep speeds down, and to play it as safe as possible.
"Should they during their travels encounter a PennDOT snow truck salting the roadways and doing it's job," he said. "just please give it plenty of room."
Weather forecasters were calling for 1-3 inches of accumulations.
