PennDOT Opens New Visitors Center on I-95 At Delaware Border
LOWER CHICHESTER, Pa. (CBS) - Drivers heading north on Interstate 95 from Delaware into Pennsylvania now have a new welcome center they can visit in Lower Chichester (Delaware County).
The new, 8,500-square-foot building replaces the two smaller buildings that could no longer accommodate the more than 130,000 visitors who stop into the center each year.
"They can find out information on destinations, hotels, attractions, and our staff can go ahead and help with making reservations so people can get to where they're going and have a place to stay when they get there," says Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesman Charlie Metzger.
There are also interactive kiosks with information about the state, and a secure area for pets that need to take a little walk after a long drive.
It took about a year to construct the new building, at a cost of nearly $6 million. It's located on I-95 about a half-mile north of the Pennsylvania-Delaware border.
