PennDOT: I-95 North Traffic Shift Scheduled Next Weekend At Cottman Avenue Interchange In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Friday announced that it plans to complete the shift of northbound traffic on Interstate 95 at the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) Interchange in Philadelphia into a new pattern next weekend (August 14-15).
PennDOT says this will allow its contractor to fully enter the next major stage of the $212 million project to rebuild the interchange and adjoining sections of I-95.
Preparing for the shift, PennDOT says crews will work at night to relocate and shift construction barriers and paint new traffic lines along I-95.
I-95 north and south will be reduced from three lanes to two between the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) and Bridge Street interchanges on Sunday, August 9, through Saturday, August 15, from 8 p.m. to midnight, and from two lanes to one from midnight to 5 a.m. the following morning to complete the shift, according to PennDOT.
The contractor's schedule is dependent on the weather.
In addition, PennDOT says the northbound I-95 off-ramp to Cottman Avenue (Route 73) and the Princeton Avenue on-ramp to I-95 north will be closed for bridge construction on Sunday, August 9, through Saturday, August 15, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.
Motorists normally using the northbound Princeton Avenue on-ramp will be detoured north on State Road, left on Linden Avenue, then right on the ramp to I-95 north at the Academy Road Interchange.
Motorists normally using the northbound Cottman Avenue (Route 73) off-ramp will be directed to remain on I-95 north and exit at the Academy Road Interchange, turning right onto Linden Street and right onto State Road south back to Cottman Avenue.
I-95 motorists are advised to allow more time for travel through the work area and to remain alert for slowing or stopped traffic approaching the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) Interchange.
