PennDOT: I-95 Lane And Ramp Closures Scheduled In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Interstate 95 motorists will encounter travel restrictions this weekend and next week for construction at the Cottman Avenue and Girard Avenue interchanges in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Friday.
PennDOT says the construction is associated with improvements underway on three contracts to rebuild the Cottman Avenue and Girard Avenue interchanges and to reconstruct and widen more than three miles of I-95 adjoining the interchanges.

PennDOT says the on-ramp from State Road to I-95 south at Longshore Avenue at the Cottman Avenue Interchange remains closed through this weekend until 5 a.m. Monday, March 30, for the installation of a storm sewer pipe. They say drivers can access I-95 south by taking Longshore Avenue to New State Road, turn right and follow New State Road south to Tacony Street south, then turn left onto Aramingo Avenue to the on-ramp at the Bridge Street Interchange.
On Monday, March 30 through Thursday, April 2, PennDOT says the off-ramp from I-95 north to Cottman Avenue (Route 73) will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. to install and secure beams for the center section of the I-95 bridge over the ramp. Drivers will be detoured north on I-95 to the Academy Road Interchange, then right on Linden Street to State Road, and right on State Road back to Cottman Avenue, according to PennDOT.
On Monday, March 30 through Friday, April 3, two of the three through lanes on I-95 north between Shackamaxon Street and Columbia Avenue will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning to provide the contractor with access to the median area work zone at the Girard Avenue Interchange, according to the department.
PennDOT says on Tuesday, March 31 and Wednesday, April 1, crews will close two lanes on I-95 south between Allegheny Avenue and Girard Avenue from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. to demolish two overhead sign structures. In addition, PennDOT says I-95 south will be stopped periodically for up to 15 minutes during the operation to remove the structures over the travel lanes.
PennDOT advises drivers to expect slow moving traffic and delays entering the work zones. They say all scheduled activities are weather dependent.
