PennDOT Crews Prepare For Yet Another Winter Storm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It looks like the groundhog was right -- and Old Man Winter is going to hang around a little while longer.
Forecasters predict the Philadelphia region on Monday will once again be hit with sleet, snow and freezing temperatures.
All of the storms this winter have kept road crews very busy. And while PennDOT is prepared for this latest round, spokesman Brad Rudolph says you will not see any of their trucks out pre-treating the roads -- and they have some good reasons why.
"It might start with some showers as opposed to snow which will just wash the solution away," Rudolph says. "Also, there is salt residue from the previous storm that will serve its function and will help keep the ground from freezing during snowfall."
Rudolph says their crews will be out plowing and salting the roads during the storm, but they need drivers to do their part to help keep themselves and others safe, as well.
"Be alert, be aware of your conditions," he cautions. "Make sure your clearing your car off, your hood, your windows, your roof of snow and ice."
And, Rudolph says, if you're hitting the roads in the morning, give yourself plenty of time to get where you're going.
"If you don't have to travel, please don't travel," he says, "or delay your plans and let our crews do the best they can to make the roads passable for the morning rush."
