PennDOT Crews Working To Fill Philly Potholes
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The snow is melting and the days are getting warmer, so that can only mean one thing: it's pothole season!
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation crews are busy patching these pesky pests, but cars are still taking a beating.
Drivers know that one deep pothole can ruin their day.
"Two on Castor Avenue, three on the Boulevard. Busted one of my tires up," said one driver.
PennDOT crews are out, filling potholes and smoothing the road. Foreman Mike Dwyer says it's a simple process for his crew.
Broom debris out of the hole, apply a syrupy bonding agent to the bottom, and shovel in the gravel, stone, and tar "cold patch." Then tamp it down.
"We make it a little bit higher. We shovel it in and then use a rake to level it off," he said. "And we leave it a little bit higher because it's going to settle, and the cars are going to push it down."
