PennDOT Bridge Work Expected To Cause Delays On I-76
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If you're planning on heading to the Flyers pre-season game tonight, expect some traffic delays on the way home if will be using I-76, the Schuylkill Expressway.
Construction crews will be putting some late-night lane restrictions into effect tonight as they continue work on bridges in the area of 30th Street Station.
"One lane will be closed both eastbound and westbound from 10 o'clock at night till 5 o'clock Tuesday morning," says PennDOT spokesman Gene Blaum. "And then Tuesday night through Friday night there will be an eastbound lane closure in the same area during the same times: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. And that's for work that crews are doing overhead on the Chestnut Street Bridge over Interstate 76."
Blaum says the work is part of an ongoing 50.8 million dollar project, "Crews are repairing six structurally deficient bridges that carry Arch Street, 30th Street, Market Street, Chestnut Street over Amtrak's Northeast Corridor rail lines so the bridge and structural work that is being done is all being done below surface."
Street construction on the surface of the bridges is to be completed in November, while the structural work to the bridges isn't expected to be finished until December 2012.
