Penn Wood High School Upperclassmen Return To Class
By Jim Melwert
YEADON, Pa. (CBS) -- Penn Wood upperclassmen are back in school for the first time Wednesday, but not in their regular building.
Penn Wood's Green Avenue campus in Lansdowne was damaged by fire believed to be arson last week (See Related Story). So instead, juniors and seniors are at the 9th and 10th grade Cypress Street campus in Yeadon.
To fit all grades in, they'll do split sessions. Upperclassmen have the building from 6:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., then 9th and 10th graders come in from 11 a.m. to 4p.m.
Parents dropping off their kids Wednesday morning say they're proud of how the situation is being handled.
"God bless 'em, they're doing alright," one man said. "You don't have any choice, you have to let them know, 'you can't let it defeat you'. Everybody's really coming together and that's the good thing about it."
Students like Senior Joseph Dobson are trying to make the best of it.
"It feels a lot easier to me. I can process more in the morning than in the afternoon, so it feels really good, feels like a good school year."
While split sessions here will likely go on for the remainder of the school year, arson investigators continue to work to solve the fire at the Lansdowne building.
