Penn State's Probe of Sandusky Scandal Expected To Wrap Up By September

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (CBS) -- The Penn State board of trustees was told today that the independent investigation of the Jerry Sandusky affair remains on course, to be completed before the start of the new academic year.
Ken Frazier, chair of the special investigations task force, told university trustees today that the firm headed by former FBI director Louis Freeh is "well into its investigation, fully engaged in reviewing voluminous documents and electronic data, conducting numerous interviews, and pursuing leads."
The Freeh team has so far conducted more than 400 interviews, and the investigation is said to be parallel with but independent of several other active investigations by agencies and governmental authorities.

Frazier (above) says the examination centers on "any failures or gaps in the university's control environment," as well as its "culture," which he says "may have enabled the alleged misconduct to occur, to go undetected, and not be reported and addressed promptly and properly."
