Penn State Starts Talks With 20 Sandusky Accusers
By Pat Loeb
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Mediators hired by Penn State says the University hopes to settle, by the end of the year, with victims of former football coach and convicted sex abuser Jerry Sandusky. They anticipate claims from 20 men who say Sandusky abused them.
Michael Rozen says he and partner Ken Feinberg have been meeting with attorneys for the men and he's optimistic that claims against the University can be settled.
"We've gotten a very good reception from counsel for the victims and I would think that if everybody puts their mind to it and works hard at this that we should be able to get these things resolved."
Rozen says the men include the eight identified during Sandusky's trial, as well as others who've come forward since. He says he can't predict how much the cases will ultimately cost the university.
"There really is no roadmap for these kinds of things."
And he says he can't predict how the cases will be settled.
"There's obviously some precedent for child molestation cases, when you look at pedophile priests and things of that nature, but I would not say that there's any precedent that creates a rule for how these things get settled and for how much."
The firm has mediated many high profile claims, including Hurricane Katrina and the World Trade Center attack.
