Penn State, Rutgers, Open Up 2014 Big Ten Schedule
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — A previously scheduled nonconference game between Rutgers and Penn State in 2014 will become the Big Ten's first game under the new 14-team alignment with the Scarlet Knights joining the league.
The Sept. 13, 2014 date for the NIttany Lions' visit to Rutgers was kept, except it will now be a conference game according to the Big Ten's schedule announcement Thursday.
The 2014 season will also mark the debut of the new East and West divisional alignments. Rutgers and Penn State are in the East division.
The schedule also includes a visit to Michigan and home games against Ohio State and the league's other newcomer, Maryland.
There's one opening left in 2014 for a nonconference game. Coach Bill O'Brien has said the team is trying to schedule a game in Ireland.
