Penn State Ranked As 12th Best All-Time College Football Program
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Wouldn't it be cool to rank the best college football programs ever?
Well that's exactly what the Associated Press -- which has been ranking college football teams for 80 years -- did on Tuesday. To determined the top college football programs ever, the AP used this formula: poll appearances are one point, No. 1 rankings are two points, and AP championships are 10 points.

Penn State came in as the 12th ranked college football program ever with 647 points.
"The Nittany Lions have not been ranked at any point during the last four seasons (2011-15)," the AP wrote. "Since making their poll debut in 1940, Penn State had never gone more than three seasons without being ranked at least once.
Penn State's Big Ten foe, Ohio State, came in as the No. 1 ranked program with 1,112 points. The Buckeyes have not been ranked in the AP Top 25 at least once in just three of the past 80 seasons.
