Penn State Alumni Run 1,000 Mile Relay For 'Life Back On Track'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - 10-years-ago, a Penn State pole-vaulter died when he landed on his head during a jump.
Starting Monday, August 27th some of his former teammates will run a 1,000 mile relay to raise money for the foundation that carries his name.
Kevin Dare died in 2002, during pole vault finals at Big Ten championships at the University of Minnesota.
The 10 runners, all Penn State alumni, will do a relay from the spot where he died, to State College. Each of them will be doing about a marathon every day, for four straight days, running sub-six-minute miles.
Run director Ryan Foster says it will raise money for the Kevin Dare Foundation's "Life Back on Track" scholarship.
"It'll be the equivalent to having a full-ride scholarship, so it's quite substantial, and it's going to go to a high school student who suffers from either a severe injury or severe illness," explains Foster.
This year's scholarship went to Hammonton High track star Lynette Henshaw after she was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer.
