Pedestrian Struck Twice In Delaware Fatal Crash

By Andrew Kramer

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) - Authorities are investigating a fatal crash in which a pedestrian was struck two times and killed Friday night in Wilmington, Delaware.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. while the victim, 18-year-old Nigel C. Simon Jr., was attempting to cross Kirkwood Highway.

Authorities say he was initially struck by car driven by 45-year-old Natalie Nelson while trying to cross the eastbound lanes. He was then knocked into the westbound lanes where he was hit by 48-year-old Kurt Schoell.

Simon Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the drivers, or any of their passengers were injured.

Investigators say the area Simon Jr. attempted to cross the highway was not within a designated crosswalk.

Kirkwood Highway westbound was completely closed and eastbound restricted to one lane of travel for several hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. Authorities are still investigating.
