Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Hit-Run Driver In Montgomery County

POTTSTOWN, Pa. (CBS) – Neighbors are upset that a fatal hit and run took place at a busy intersection near the border of Pottstown and Lower Pottsgrove, but they say they aren't surprised.
"Something needs to be done here with this intersection," says Mike Adams, one of those neighbors. "You got to cross at your own risk, pretty much, at all times."
"People just go way too fast, and they need to do something," Dina Astle, another neighbor, agrees.
A woman was crossing over Mervine Street near the border of Pottstown and Lower Pottsgrove a little after 7 a.m. Monday when she was hit by vehicle.
She was pronounced dead on the scene.
"Once we'd seen it, it looks like she died on the spot," says Sukhjander Singh, a Sunoco employee who adds that the elderly woman was a regular customer, but he didn't know her name. "I feel really sad for her that this happened to her."
Singh saw the surveillance video before turning it over to police and says a school bus may have been involved.
"It's a big vehicle, not a small car. The way the body looked like too; it looked like a big truck or bus."
In the Chopper 3 HD video, you can see schools buses driving through the intersection after the accident.
But after investigating, both the Pottstown and Pottsgrove school districts told Eyewitness News that they don't believe one of their buses was involved.
Neighbors say many people walk across this intersection even though it lacks pedestrian signals and crosswalks.
"The shopping center is right here, so there's a lot of people that don't drive," says Astle.
"Everyday there are people walking, lot of older people in this area," agrees David Pursel, who lives nearby.
While officials continue to investigate, neighbors hope that something will be done to make the intersection safer.
"What's it going to take? Until a child dies at the intersection?" Adams said.
