Pearl Harbor Survivors From Delco Visit Flower Show's 'Arizona' Memorial

By Lynne Adkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Three Delaware County, Pa. men who survived the "day that will live in infamy" today got a first-hand tour of a Philadelphia Flower Show exhibit dear to their hearts.

Patriotic music set the theme at the exhibit titled, "Remembrance," a replica of the USS Arizona memorial in Hawaii.

Ninety-five year old George Smith has been to the original and was awed by this replica.  He's also a longtime fan of the Flower Show.

"Beautiful -- when my wife was living, we came every year," he said today.

Ninety-year-old Ed Kane, another Pearl Harbor survivor, was also impressed.

"It's fantastic," he said.

Designer Tom Morris of J. Downend Landscaping says when he heard the theme of this year's flower show was Hawaii (see related story), there was no other choice for him.

"We wanted to go outside the box, stretch our imagination, and go from a teaching perspective," he tells KYW Newsradio.  "Bring back a little bit of history."

The model includes the names of all the men who went down with the Arizona during the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
