Patients Learning New Skills In State Of The Art Rehab Facility At Montgomery County Hospital
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A refurbished rehabilitation unit In Montgomery County is giving patients the space needed to get back to their lives.
The Acute Rehabilitation Unit at Abington Hospital-Jefferson Health will give patients the up to date space and equipment they need to regain the skills they need in life. Dr. Steven Levin, Chief of Rehabilitation Medicine, says patients will stay in the unit an average of ten days following serious health issues.
"The most common people we treat on our rehab unit are those patients who have strokes," Levin says. "We also treat patients who have had multiple trauma, hip fractures or lost the ability to function, mobilize or care for themselves."
The 23-bed unit features a new gym, dining room and facilities needed for physical, occupational and speech therapy.
"They'll be learning how to sit again, they'll learn how to get out of bed or a chair, they'll learn how to walk again," Levin says. "If it's something they've done before and it's reasonable for them to do again, they'll learn how to get dressed and undressed, they'll learn how to bathe and prepare a meal."
